UWCSEA East is currently seeking applications from qualified Primary School Class Teachers to join the Primary School team.
There are 2 positions available:
- Maternity cover from 4 August 2025 to 18 December 2026,
- Sabbatical Cover from 4 August 2025 to 24 June 2026
Please note that to apply for this role, you must have an internationally recognised qualification and reside in Singapore.
The successful candidate will be highly resourceful, positive and flexible, able to establish rapport with Primary-aged students (aged 4-11).
Main Responsibilities
- Provide a happy, stimulating, safe learning environment for all children and bring a sense of energy, joy and fun to the classroom.
- Collaborate as a member of a grade team, planning learning engagements; sharing resources and building positive and effective relationships with all stakeholders
- Participate and contribute to all 5 elements of the UWCSEA programme, including Outdoor Education (overnight camps, Outdoor Learning, Activities)
- Understand students’ individual needs and differentiate learning accordingly, seeking support when appropriate.
- Maintain regularly updated assessment records, including relevant and meaningful anecdotal comments.
- Communicate regularly and effectively with parents via a range of communication channels, including end of year reporting and conferences.
- Enthusiastically engage in professional learning, both that which is mandated by the College and that which is identified by the individual with the aim of extending professional expertise.
- Use technology within the classroom effectively and be prepared to upgrade and extend personal skills.
- Support school policies and work cooperatively with Grade/ Department Heads, Vice Principals and the Principal, to achieve set goals.
- Be a role model for students at all times in terms of personal actions.
- Work with and help to develop Teaching Assistants.
- Attend all appropriate grade level, school level and other meetings as required.
- Assist in field trips in Singapore and overseas, where necessary.
- Assist with any other duties, tasks or jobs with similar levels of responsibility and complexity to the assigned job grade as may be reasonably requested by the line manager and/or the College.
Expectations and Standards
Person Specifications
- A relevant degree and recognized teaching qualification are essential.
- Minimum of 3 years classroom experience in an international school is essential.
- The ability and willingness to teach across the Primary age range as grade placement is unknown at the moment.
- A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
- Flexibility, positivity and the ability to build rapport with students is important.
Knowledge of and experience of the following would be an advantage:
- International curricula, their delivery and assessment
- Concept-based teaching and learning - a desire to engage children in concept-based learning, where they develop big ideas both specific to subject areas and transcending them.
- Readers’ and Writers’ Workshop approach
- Reggio Emilia inspired, child centred, play based approaches
- Creating agentic learning environments and opportunities
- Honesty, integrity, compassion
General
- Teachers are expected to participate in the five key elements of a UWCSEA education: Academics; Activities; Outdoor Education; Personal and Social Education and Service
- Academic expectations include enthusiastic participation in Professional Learning, both that which is mandated by the College and that which is identified by the individual.
- On average the College expects a weekly contribution across all four seasons to the Activities and/or Service programmes.
- The College expects that teachers will participate enthusiastically in the curricular Outdoor Education experiences which are relevant to their students and will also occasionally volunteer for holiday Outdoor Education trips.
