This Deepavali, the Indian Activity Executive Committee (IAEC) at Pasir Ris Elias Community Club (CC) embarked on a truly special project. Their vision was to transform traditional garments into a vibrant festive display, aiming not just for beautiful decorations, but for an initiative that would weave the community together through meaning and sustainability.

A Tapestry of Community Spirit

The IAEC launched a heartfelt call for saree donations, and the response was overwhelming. Hundreds of beautiful traditional garments poured in from generous individuals and organisations across Singapore, showcasing a remarkable spirit of giving. This generosity was matched by an incredible volunteer effort. Residents and volunteers from all walks of life came together, dedicating their time to meticulously sort, prepare, and hang each donated saree throughout the Community Club.

The result is a breathtaking transformation. Pasir Ris Elias CC now stands as a stunning canvas of colours and stories, where each saree is a testament to the community's generosity, a commitment to sustainability, and the rich diversity that binds everyone. It's a display that truly reflects the vibrant spirit of Deepavali.

Sustainability and Lasting Impact

Beyond the festive period, the positive impact of this initiative continues. Demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainability and ongoing community support, all donated sarees will be carefully collected and contributed to charitable homes and organisations supporting domestic workers. This ensures that these beautiful garments continue to bring joy and benefit to others, extending their lifecycle and purpose beyond the initial celebration.

A Multicultural Extravaganza

The culmination of this collective effort was the "Fabric of Unity: Deepavali Light-Up" ceremony. Held in conjunction with the Pasir Ris West Mid-Autumn Getai Show 2025, this unique event created a truly multicultural celebration. It served as a wonderful platform, fostering deeper cross-cultural understanding and appreciation within our diverse community, highlighting the shared values that unite us all.
